Y5 11.12.20 Looking Back and Forth
Friday 11th December 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5
Looking back:
The children have produced some fantastic work this week. We’ve done a number of lovely written pieces, where the children have skilfully applied some of the vocabulary we have learned in history and geography to a recount and a diary entry. These will be published in neat and put on display in the classroom and in the children’s topic books.
In maths, the children found using a protractor to measure and draw angles really tricky at first, but they put lots of effort into it and were doing really well by the second lesson.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We enjoyed the PSHE lessons about ‘change’ and ‘future goals’.
- It was interesting to learn about Alan Turing and his achievements.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children to tell you what they have learned about VE Day.
- Ask the children to tell you some facts they learned about Alan Turing’s life.
Looking forward:
Unbelievably, it is the last week of term! We have a number of Christmassy activities planned – a pantomime to watch, and a virtual visit from Father Christmas.
The children will get chance to visit the Christmas shop on Thursday. All classes are asking for money to be in on Monday. We will make a note of how much each child has brought in and will then make sure they get the right amount of gifts when they visit the shop. To make it easier for the children to bring in the correct money, every gift is £2.50 – maximum four gifts per child. Pupils will need to bring the correct amount of money and no change can be given. They will also need to bring their own bag to take their gifts home in. The gifts were brought into school a few days ago and have had to stay untouched until we sell them.
Wider Opportunities:
The music the children are learning in Wider Opps sessions is attached at the bottom of the page.
