Y5 11.6.21 Looking Back and Forth
Friday 11th June 2021 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5
Looking back:
It was lovely to welcome the children back from our half term break this week. They have produced some fantastic work already! The children ‘published’ their wonderful written work based on the book, The Promise. The writing this week has been outstanding.
We did quite a bit of PSHE work at the beginning of the week. Firstly, we explored the word ‘respect’ and what it means to the children. We then moved on to study the role of Martin Luther King in the civil rights movement. Finally, we read the book, ‘And Tango Makes Three’, and explored the quote from the book, ‘…all kinds of love can make up a family’.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We really enjoyed making our respect badges.
- We loved the story ‘And Tango Makes Three’ and trying to draw a penguin.
- We enjoyed our final writing piece with The Promise, and we are looking forward to our new writing topic.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children what they learned about levers in our science investigation.
- What did the children learn about civil rights and Martin Luther King.
- What did ‘respect’ mean to your child?
Looking forward:
The children should have brought home a letter today about our day trip to Burwardsley. Very exciting!
Next week we will be starting a new writing topic which will be based on adventures in the wild and survival.
In maths, we will be problem solving some number balances before moving on to proportion/ratio.
Topic work this half term continues to explore South America in geography, and Ancient Greece in history.
