Y5 1/2/19 Looking Back and Forth
Friday 1st February 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5
Looking back:
The children have produced some wonderful writing in the style of Edith Nesbitt and ’The Railway Children’. I have been so impressed with their attitude in maths; we have undertaken some tricky percentages work and they have given it a really good go.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We enjoyed playing hockey.
- We liked writing our own versions of ‘The Railway Children’.
- We enjoyed the percentages work.
- We enjoyed going on the field in the snow.
Family discussion questions:
Ask your children…
- how they calculate a percentage of a number.
- what e-safety tips they can give you about creating a password.
- what they learned about air-resistance.
Looking forward:
On Monday, we have a wildlife expert in school who will be spending a little bit of time with each class. Children will need wellies or sturdy shoes to change into for this activity. We will then be undertaking a week of writing based on nature and the outdoors. We will also be doing some artwork next week based on the work of Monet. The work we produce from this will then be framed and go into an art exhibition in the hall during March.
Homework in Year 5:
Maths: Given Monday/Return following Monday.
English: Given Monday/Return following Monday.
Spellings: Given Friday/Tested following Friday.
Wider Opportunities:
Children to practise ‘Let Me Entertain You’ and ‘Tango’.
Remember to bring all music and instrument guides etc every week.
Spare copies of music are available in the classroom.
