Y5 13.3.20 Looking Back and Forth

Friday 13th March 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5

Looking back:

The children have had a great week this week. They have worked very hard on imagining, and writing, a VE Day diary entry. They also learnt all about rationing and the impact on the country this had during WWII. In geography, they studied a local river (the River Weaver) and how it was used in the past.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We are really enjoying listening to each other’s presentations about family members during WWII.
  • We enjoyed learning about a local river.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children what they learned about rationing.
  • Ask the children about the Anderton Boatlift and what it was/is used for.

Looking forward:

We are looking forward to our trip to Jodrell Bank on Thursday – I’m sure you have heard that there is a very special guest attending! I’ll send a text home during the week with a few more details.

In English work, we will be moving on to look at how to write a balanced argument. In maths, the children will be exploring translation and reflection.

Our WWII topic is coming to an end, and we will be looking at the events that led up to VE Day in 1945.

Wider Opportunities:

Keep practising ‘The Chicken Cluck Waddle’.

There will be the opportunity to demonstrate how much you know next week.
