Y5 14.2.20 Looking Back and Forth
Friday 14th February 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5
Looking back:
We’ve really enjoyed the last week of the half term. The children have done some lovely work based on Henry Moore’s London Underground Blitz artwork. They have had a go at sketching their own pictures, and also written some fantastic poems based on the artwork in literacy lessons.
The whole school also had a equality and diversity afternoon on Thursday and undertook a carousel of activities.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We enjoyed our last lesson with Mrs Benson before her retirement.
- We really enjoyed the equality and diversity work.
- We have enjoyed presenting work in neat – our journey of a river work and our Henry Moore poem.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children what they learned about Henry Moore and why he produced his artwork.
- Ask the children what activities they were involved in during our equality and diversity afternoon.
Looking forward:
In the first week back, we will be starting a new writing unit where we will be imagining diary entries at different points during WWII. In maths, we will be undertaking some time problem solving activities, and looking a time-tables.
The children are now signed up to the Accelerated Reader programme. Information coming home soon.
Don’t forget, the children also have access to Times-tables Rockstars and can be practising their times-tables at home if they are able to get on-line.
Wider Opportunities:
Children are currently learning ‘Michael Oliver’ and ‘Mini March’. The note names are at the bottom of the music to help.
