Y5 14.7.21 Y5 Looking Back and Forth
Friday 7th May 2021 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5
Looking back:
On Monday, we were visited by the local PCSO who talked to the children about social media and internet safety. It was a really interesting and useful discussion. The PCSO reminded the children that many social media sites have a minimum age limit for a reason, and talked this through with them. This visit compliments the work we have been doing in class on e-safety.
We started a new book for our literacy lessons this week called, ‘The Promise’. We have had some great discussions around the themes in this book and the children have really immersed themselves in this powerfully written text.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We really enjoyed discussing the word ‘empathy’ and the work we did on the book ‘How to Mend a Broken Wing’ in our PSHE lesson.
- We enjoyed researching different Ancient Greek Gods.
- We are enjoying our guided reading book, The Railway Children.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children to tell you the golden rules of rounding.
- Ask the children what they learned about internet safety from the PCSO.
- What did the children learn from our air resistance science lesson?
Looking forward:
We’ll try this again! Next week, the swimming pool will arrive and will be in place on the playground for the next two weeks! Year 5 will have been allocated two days with the pool (Tuesday 18th and Friday 28th May) where they will swim in groups throughout the day. If the swimming instructor feels any children would benefit from extra practise to try and ensure they can swim 25m, we will send a letter home with them and they will require their kit from the Wednesday to the next Wednesday too.
In class, we will be interpreting data help in graphs and tables. In English, we will carry on with our work based on the book, ‘The Promise’.
