Y5 17.1.20 Looking Back and Forth
Friday 17th January 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5
Looking back:
We’ve had a very hard working week in Year 5. The children have been doing lots of fractions work – equivalent fractions, mixed number and improper fractions, ordering fractions and adding/subtracting fractions!
In our written work, we have started looking at Michael Morpurgo’s ‘Billy the Kid’. This ties in with our WWII history topic. In geography, the children have produced a lovely collage showing the stages of a river’s journey to the sea.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We are really enjoying ‘Billy the Kid’.
- We enjoyed making the collage and thought that this was a good way to learn about rivers.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children to see if they can remember the different stages of the journey of a river.
- Ask the children to tell you the reasons why WWII began.
Looking forward:
Next week, the children will be moving on to look at area and perimeter in maths.
In geography, we will be researching wildlife that lives in an estuary.
In history, we will be looking at a map of Europe during WWII to see which countries were occupied.
Don't forget, you are invited to come and listen to Imran Kotwal speak (Tuesday, 2.15pm) in the Sunchine Room. Imran is coming in to talk about how we teach Islam to our pupils.
The children are now signed up to the Accelerated Reader programme. Information coming home soon.
Don’t forget, the children also have access to Times-tables Rockstars and can be practising their times-tables at home if they are able to get on-line.
Wider Opportunities:
Children are currently learning ‘Michael Oliver’ and ‘Mini March’. The note names are at the bottom of the music to help.
