Y5 22.10.21 Weekly Update
Friday 22nd October 2021 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
We’ve enjoyed a lovely last week of the half-term. The children have produced some reflective work about Martin Luther-King and Nelson Mandela. As a class, we discussed civil rights and read ‘The Long Walk to Freedom’ together. The children also looked at Hindu wedding ceremonies and designed some lovely henna tattoos in their books. On Thursday afternoon, the children were treated to an hour with Key Strings, who discussed the history of different genres of music and demonstrated a number of different instruments.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We really enjoyed reading ‘The Road to Freedom’ and found Martin Luther-King and Nelson Mandela inspirational.
- We loved watching the Key Strings Assembly.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children about our lever investigation in science – what did they learn about levers?
- What did the children learn about gears on a bicycle?
- What did the children enjoy about Key Strings?
Looking forward:
When we return to school on Monday 1st November, we will be starting a writing unit based on the wonderful book, ‘Where Once We Stood’. This will also link to our science unit which is all about space. In maths, we will spend a couple of weeks on statistics, beginning with line graphs. Our history topic will be WWII – the children have been asked to undertake a little bit of research about a family member who might have been involved in WWII. These are to be completed by Monday 8th November, ready to present to the class!
PE Day will be on Friday next half-term.
