Y5 22.4.22 Weekly Update

Friday 22nd April 2022 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It was lovely to see the children back in school so happy, enthusiastic and ready to learn after their two-week break. This week we started our new geography topic about rivers. We found some well known rivers on a map of the United Kingdom and explored some of the features they have in common.

In maths, we have continued to practise with decimals. In our English work, we have explored the features of a formal report. The children will be writing their own report, imagining they are Dr. Watson writing to Sherlock Holmes.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed learning about rivers in the United Kingdom.
  • We liked practising our rounders skills in our PE lesson.
  • We enjoyed reading ‘The Railway Children’ in our guided reading sessions.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children if they can tell you any well-known rivers in the United Kingdom.
  • Ask the children about the wonderful 'Icarus' artwork they have been doing with Mrs Riddell.

Looking forward:

Next week we will be writing a formal report in our English lessons. In maths, we will continue to work on decimals for another week or so. In geography, we will be learning all about the journey of a river, from source to sea. In science, we will be looking at the parts of a flower, and pollination and fertilisation.
