Friday 23rd October 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5
Looking back:
I’ve been so impressed with the children this half-term; they have worked really hard and been very enthusiastic.
The children have been working on some WWII artwork inspired by Henry Moore with Mrs Riddell on Wednesday afternoons. In our writing lessons, we have written a poem to go with these. They will hopefully be displayed around the school somewhere, and some will go to the displays at Goostrey station.
The children have been learning a South African dance with Miss Oaks during their Premier Sport session. This will be sent to our twin school to view and enjoy.
In our science lesson on Thursday afternoon, we researched the scientist Maggie Aderin-Pocock.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- It was interesting to learn about the Blitz and the impact it had on cities in Britain and Germany.
- We loved learning the South African dance.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children to show you the method for multiplying 2-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers.
- Ask the children to tell you what they learned about Maggie Aderin-Pocock.
Looking forward:
After half term we will be starting a new writing unit with a ‘setting narrative’ genre. We will be inspired by a fantastic book for this.
In maths we will be converting between metric measures.
In our history work we will be looking at food shortages during WWII and the system of rationing.
Wider Opportunities:
Most children now have their instrument. I hope they have fun getting used to it and seeing what noises they can get out of it. Some might even be able to play a note!
