Y5 25.6.21 Looking Back and Forth
Friday 25th June 2021 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5
Looking back:
As part of their South America geography topic, the children have researched endangered animals this week. They looked at the reasons why more and more animals are becoming endangered in this continent, and what can be done to help.
In maths, the children did brilliantly with the concept of ratio and worked really hard on their calculations.
In history, they researched the legacy of the ancient Greeks and how the developments made by the ancient Greeks benefit us today.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We have enjoyed learning about survival from the book, ‘The Lost Book of Adventure’.
- We liked learning about endangered species but were shocked how many animals are endangered.
- It was interesting learning about ‘confession’ in Christianity.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children which endangered animals they researched.
- Ask if the children can remember what a homonym and a homophone are.
- Can the children explain what ratio is.
Looking forward:
Next week, the children will be writing a poem about endangered animals using the research they did this week to help them.
In our English lessons, the children will be writing a survival story based on the information in ‘The Lost Book of Adventure’.
In maths, we will multiplying and dividing numbers by 10, 100 and 1000. We’ll then move on to column multiplication methods.
