Y5 4.2.22 Weekly Update
Friday 4th February 2022 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
It’s been another great week in Year 5. We have been exploring fictional letter writing and characterisation in our English lessons. In maths we have done a week on fractions – looking at equivalent fractions, and converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions. In science, we conducted an interesting investigation into thermal insulation – wrapping cups in different materials and recording the temperature of the hot water inside over time. In our history work, we researched what life was like in Ancient Greece for children.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We found the RE work about confession boxes interesting.
- We enjoyed predicting the temperature drops in our thermal insulation investigation.
- We liked learning about Ancient Greek life.
Family discussion questions:
- Can the children show you how to convert an improper fraction into a mixed-number?
- Can the children tell you what they learning about life in ancient Greece?
Looking forward:
Next week, we will continue to learn about how to write a formal letter in our Engish lessons. In maths, we continue to look at fractions – the children will be adding and subtracting fractions. In our science work, we will be exploring solubility. Don’t forget the book fair is in school and the children will still be available to view it in the hall until the beginning of next week.
