Y5 5.11.21 Weekly Update
Friday 5th November 2021 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
The children have had a brilliant first week back after the half-term break. On Monday, we did some important e-safety work looking at healthy media choices. In our English work, we have looked at the first chapter of ‘Where Once We Stood’ – a wonderful retelling of the moon landings. We then wrote about the character and personality of Neil Armstrong. In maths, we have started some tricky work on statistics and data handling.
Thank you to everyone who came to view the exhibition, I know the children really enjoyed showing you around.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We really enjoyed looking at Diwali in our RE lesson on Thursday.
- We have really enjoyed the book, ‘Where Once We Stood’.
- We are looking forward to learning lots about WWII.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children what they can remember about South America from our topic last half-term.
- Discuss why Diwali is a festival of light.
- What do the children remember about the space race?
Looking forward:
Next week we will really get going on our new history topic based on WWII. We will look at a timeline of British history, the reasons why the war began, and then look at which countries were occupied in Europe. In science, we will be looking at the phases of the moon.
In maths, we will be continuing to look at interpreting data in graphs and tables.
We will also be doing some important work on Remembrance.
