Y5 6.12.19 Looking Back and Forward
Friday 6th December 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5
Looking back:
This week the children have produced some fantastic persuasive writing, looking at a local planning issue. In our history work, the children have studied Ancient Greek warfare, and explored how historians learn about civilisations in the past.
The children were fantastic in the Wider Opps ‘progress performance’ and it’s incredible to see how far they have come in such a short space of time.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We enjoyed the ‘progress performance’ and performing in front of an audience.
- We are enjoying the persuasive writing topic.
- We liked learning how archaeologists piece together evidence about the past.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask your child what they have learned about Ancient Greece this week.
- Ask your child to show you how to measure an angle with a protractor (if you have one handy).
Looking forward:
Next week, we will be basing our persuasive writing on the General Election and democracy. The children will work in groups to decide what is important to them, then create and present a manifesto to the class. We will then hold a class vote!
Wider Opportunities:
Children are learning to play…
‘Mini March’
‘Tell Me a Story’
‘Hot Mince Pies’
Children to practise their three notes.
