Y5 Friday 26th April - Looking Back and Forth
Friday 26th April 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5
Looking back:
It’s been a great first week back. The children have had a good introduction to their ancient Greece topic, researching about the lives of children in ancient Greece. They then used their knowledge to write a diary about the day in the life of a child during this period in history. On Thursday afternoon, some children performed as part of the Junior Band to residents of Mount Pleasant residential home.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We enjoyed learning about a child’s life in ancient Greece.
- We enjoyed writing and presenting our diary entry.
Family discussion questions:
Ask your children…
- What they have learned about ancient Greece so far.
- What ancient Greek myths, monsters and heroes they know.
- About their thermal insulation investigation in science.
Looking forward:
Next week we will begin a new 3-week writing unit based on ancient Greek myths. The conclusion of this unit will see the children creating their own myth. In maths we will be undertaking some word interpreting line-graphs and data-handling. In science we will begin a new topic, ‘Living Things’, and will explore the process of pollination.
There will be an informal Year 5 class assembly on Thursday 23rd May at 9.30am, where the children will present some of the work they have done so far this year. Look out for text messages with further details nearer the time.
