Y5 11.9.20 Looking Back and Forth
Friday 11th September 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5
Looking back:
The children have had a great first week back. They have been so enthusiastic and worked hard – it’s been wonderful to see. They have also been so sensible with some of the new little routines and rules that are in place. I have been very impressed with them.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We really enjoyed making the river collage.
- We liked reading about Neil Armstrong’s first steps on the Moon.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children what they learned about the Moon landings and the space race.
- Ask the children to tell you about the journey of a river.
Looking forward:
Next week, we are continuing to base our English on the wonderful book ‘Where Once We Stood’.
In maths, we will be looking at place value and strategies for addition and subtraction.
We have already started our WWII topic, and will be looking at a timeline of British history over the last one hundred years.
I will be starting a homework club in the next couple of weeks – look out for details!
Wider Opportunities:
The children have watched some videos showing brass bands and orchestras and will be making chooses about their own instrument soon!
