Y5 Weekly Update 10.3.23
Friday 10th March 2023 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
It’s been a fantastic week in Year 5. We have been really enjoying the WWII family history presentations. They have been so interesting to listen to, and the children have spoken with passion about their family members and delivered the presentations so well. Thanks for all the help you have given the children, putting the presentations together.
In English this week, the children wrote a powerful diary entry, imagining it was VE Day at the end of WWII. This concludes a really enjoyable and interesting history topic.
In maths, the children have been studying decimals. In science, we looked at the fire triangle, and why things burn.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We enjoyed writing the VE Day diary entries and presenting them in neat for our topic books.
- We found exploring the meaning of quotes from the Qu’ran really interesting
- We are looking forward to our Burwardsley geography topic.
Family discussion questions:
- Can the children tell you some top facts they have learned about WWII?
- Can the children describe the fire triangle to you?
Looking forward:
Next week, we will start our Burwardsley geography topic. We’ll be looking at road maps, Ordnance Surveys, compass points and grid references – among other things!
In English, we will be continuing with our work based on the book, ‘The Promise’. This is a really thought provoking text and the children are really enjoying it.
In maths, we will continue to look at decimals, and we’ll be ordering decimals and rounding decimals.
It is the Mother's Day shop next week. We will be visiting it on Wednesday morning if children can bring any money in then.
Have a lovely weekend!
