Y5 Weekly Update 1.3.24
Friday 1st March 2024 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
On Monday, the children had a really useful workshop with the NSPCC, discussing a range of issues such as bullying and abuse. We’ve had a great week in our English lessons – the children wrote a poem to go with their Henry Moore artwork and they wrote a VE Day diary entry. In maths, the children completed their fractions unit of work – they have done some tricky work in these lessons! We are ending the WWII topic with the children’s family history presentations – these have been so interesting so far. Thank you for the effort that has gone into them.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We have found the WWII topic really interesting.
- We enjoyed writing the VE Day diary.
- We feel more confident at fractions now!
Family discussion questions:
- Can the children tell you who Henry Moore was?
- Can the children show you how to add fractions with different denominators?
Looking forward:
The children have now finished the WWII History topic. We will now move on to some Geography work about Burwardsley, looking at maps, Ordnance Surveys, compass points etc.
Our new Maths unit of work, which we start net week, looks at decimals and percentages. We also start a new RE topic looking at art and music in religion.
The children’s books will be out on Thursday – 3.30pm to 4.45pm. You are welcome to drop in!
Have a good weekend!
