Y5 Weekly Update 13.9.24
Friday 13th September 2024 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
It’s been a great week in Year 5 and the children have worked very hard! In English we’ve continued our work on the wonderful book, Where Once We Stood, and the children are building up to writing a narrative based on space travel. This links to our science work and this week we learned about the phases of the Moon. In Maths, we have started the year looking at place value and numbers. Our history topic, based on Ancient Greece, is in full swing and we’ve looked at a timeline of world history and where this civilisation fits into that.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We are enjoying Wider Opportunities.
- We liked learning about the phases of the Moon.
Family discussion questions:
- Can the children remember when the Ancient Greek era approximately began?
- If we have a clear night, can the children see if they can work out what phase the Moon is currently in?
Looking forward:
Next week, we will be researching the differences between how Athens and Sparta were governed in Ancient Greece.
In science, we will be looking at the ground-breaking work of Copernicus and Galileo.
Don’t forget homework is to hand in on Mondays, and children are tested on their weekly spellings each Friday.
Have a great weekend!
