Y5 Weekly Update 15.11.24
Friday 15th November 2024 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
It’s been a great week in Year 5. On Monday, the children produced some thoughtful and reflective poems about the poppy fields. We used the wonderful book, ‘Where the Poppies Now Grow’ as our inspiration. We also studied John McCrae’s poignant poem, ‘In Flanders Fields’. In maths, we have been working on prime numbers and multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. In geography, we used atlases to find some well-known rivers in the United Kingdom.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We enjoyed writing the Remembrance poems.
- It was interesting learning about figurative language in English.
Family discussion questons:
- Can the children tell you the difference between a square and cube number?
- Can the children tell you a well-known river that runs through a city in the United Kingdom?
Looking forward:
Next week, we will be planning our own narrative writing based on the wonderful book, FArTHER.
In maths, we will be moving on to a unit of work about Fractions.
In geography, we will be learning about the journey of a river from source to sea.
On Tuesday afternoon, the children will be doing some hedge planting just outside the school grounds. A separate email will have come out providing information about this. They will ALSO have an extra session of PE on Thursday!
Have a great weekend!
