Y5 Weekly Update 15.12.23
Friday 15th December 2023 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
It’s been a hardworking week in Year 5! In maths, we have been looking at strategies for calculating perimeter of a variety of shapes – the children have done really well at this. In English, the children have written from the perspective of a child in ancient Greece, imagining a diary entry. Our history work has involved researching the legacy of the ancient Greeks, and how they have influenced life today.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We enjoyed writing about a day in the life of a child in ancient Greece.
- We enjoyed the Elf Run today!
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children what they learned about forces from our science topic.
- Ask the children how the ancient Greeks have inspired life today.
Looking forward:
There’s lot going on next week! On Monday, we will be watching the infant nativity... which we’re all excited about! On Tuesday and Thursday we have the Christmas Service in the church (and at 5pm on Thursday on the playground!). On Wednesday afternoon, we have a pantomime coming to school. Inbetween all this, we’ll be trying to finish off some work too!
It’s Christmas dinner on Thursday – the children can bring in a cracker if they wish to. Also, the children are welcome to bring in a traditional board game on the last day (no gadgets or anything electronic, please).
Information about Burwardsley has been emailed home - I'll be talking the children through this residential trip today so they know what to expect.
Have a great weekend!
