Y5 Weekly Update 16.2.24
Friday 16th February 2024 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
How can it be the end of the half term already?? The last six weeks have flown! The children have been working so hard and have been fully immersed in the interesting work we have been undertaking. This week, the children have learned about the life of Alan Turing and the amazing work the ‘codebreakers’ did during WWII. In RE, we studied the role of angels in different religions. In maths, we have continued to work on fractions – and the children have done brilliantly with this.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We found it really interesting learning about the life of Alan Turing
- We enjoyed the investigation into solubility in our science lesson.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children to show you how to order fractions from smallest to largest.
- Can the children tell you key facts about Alan Turing?
Looking forward:
After the break, the children will be writing a diary entry based on VE Day in our English lessons. In maths, we have one final week of fractions before moving on to some decimals work. In our WWII topic, we will be studying the impact of rationing. In science, we will be undertaking a lesson about separating materials. On Monday, the class will have a workshop with the NSPCC.
PE day remains on Fridays next half term.
I hope the children have a great half-term break!
