Y5 Weekly Update 16.9.22
Friday 16th September 2022 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
What a fantastic week it’s been in Year 5. The children have settled brilliantly in class and I am so impressed with their attitude and how hard they are working.
In our English lessons, the children have completed a wonderful piece of writing about Neil Armstrong this week. In science we researched some facts about the moon and explored the phases of the moon. The children have had their second Wider Opps session and it was wonderful to hear them playing their first notes together. Agreement letters will be coming home in the next few weeks so that the children will be able to take their instruments home.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We really enjoyed learning about Neil Armstrong.
- We loved starting our river journey collages.
- We are enjoying tag rugby in PE.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children to look outside one evening and see if they can identify what phase the moon is in.
- Can the children tell you what they’ve learned about the moon landing?
Looking forward:
Next week, the children will be continuing to explore the book, Where Once We Stood. This book is a wonderful way to learn about the moon landings, telling the story in ‘real time’.
In maths, we will continue to look at larger numbers, and rounding numbers. In RE, we are undertaking some really interesting work focusing on Hinduism. Next week we will be looking at Hindu naming ceremonies.
Don’t forget that our Year 5 Start of Year meeting for parents is on Wednesday at 4.30pm (Year 6 classroom).
