Y5 Weekly Update 17.1.25

Friday 17th January 2025 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a great week in Year 5. We started a new writing topic based on Sherlock Holmes. Our vehicle text is a graphic novel version of The Hound of the Baskervilles which the children have been really engaged by so far. In maths, we have been exploring division strategies. In Science, we had a little recap lesson exploring the properties of materials. In History, we learned about occupation of Europe and propaganda.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed gymnastics in PE.
  • We are enjoying the Sherlock Holmes novel.
  • We feel more confident at division.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children show you how to divide a 4-digit number?
  • Can the children tell you a fact about Sherlock Holmes?

Looking forward:

Next week, the children will continue to learn about evacuation and the Blitz in our WWII topic.

In maths, we will switch back to learning about fractions, with some multiplying of fractions.

In science, we will learn about solubility and conduct on experiment on dissolving.

In RE, we continue to learn about Islam, and we will compare sacred texts across different religions.

Have a great weekend!
