Y5 Weekly Update 18.10.24

Friday 18th October 2024 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

The children have been working so hard in class and they have produced some lovely work for the exhibition. This week the children have written some fantastic rap poems based on Theseus and the Minotaur. In RE, the children have learned about Diwali and the symbolism of light. In maths, the children have been having a good practise of column addition and subtraction and applying these skills to problem solving and reasoning.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed writing and performing the rap poetry.
  • We liked making the clay coins with images of Alexander the Great.
  • It was interesting to learn about Diwali.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children tell you some key facts about Diwali?
  • Can the children show you how to calculate a column subtraction sum?

Looking forward:

Next week is exhibition week! The children’s work will be up and ready to view on Wednesday. We have a few guests in school next week and the children are invited back to sing at 5pm on both days. Please see the newsletter for details.

The rest of the week will be spent tying up some loose ends, completing our Ancient Greece topic and our science topic about space.

Have a great weekend!
