Y5 Weekly Update 19.1.24
Friday 19th January 2024 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
We’ve had such a hardworking week in Year 5. The children produced a wonderful piece of writing with the objective of focusing on applying some characterisation to their work. In maths, we have been looking at strategies for calculating multiplication.
In our topic work, we learned about which countries were occupied in Europe during WWII. On Thursday afternoon, Mrs Cooper did some really interesting work with the children about databases..
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- It was interesting learning more about Muhammad in our RE lesson.
- We are enjoying learning about Henry Moore and his WWII artwork with Mrs Riddell.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children what they can tell you about a database.
- Can the children show you how to multiply two 2-digit numbers?
Looking forward:
Next week in maths, we will move on to division strategies, learning formal written methods. In English, we will be learning about writing a powerful setting description.
In science, we will be conducting our investigation about thermal insulation and drawing conclusions from what we learned.
The children will be learning a bit more about databases on Monday, and on Thursday they will be researching what happened during evacuation during WWII.
Have a great weekend!
