Y5 Weekly Update 20.9.24

Friday 20th September 2024 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

The children continue to settle brilliantly into Y5 life. In maths this week, we have been looking at large numbers – up to a million – and exploring place value and partitioning. We’ve undertaken some interesting work in history, examining how historians decide if evidence is reliable. We also learned about the differences between life in Athens and Sparta.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We are enjoying Mrs Riddell’s Wednesday afternoon artwork.
  • We really enjoyed PE.
  • It is interesting to learn about how we make conclusions about life several thousand years ago.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children remember some key facts about Brahman in Hinduism?
  • Have the children learned any more facts about the Moon landings from our class book, Where Once We Stood?

Looking forward:

Next week, the children will be learning about daily life in Ancient Greece. We will also start to immerse ourselves in some Greek myths, and begin thinking about our exhibition work!

In English, the children will begin to plan and write a narrative based on space exploration.

In Maths, our main focus will be rounding large numbers.

Have a great weekend!
