Y5 Weekly Update 2.2.24
Friday 2nd February 2024 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
It’s been a great week with a positive and hard-working atmosphere in class. In English, the children have written an amazing story based on The Hound of the Baskervilles, focusing on including cliffhangers within the story. In maths, the children have started quite a long unit of work on fractions. We started by looking at equivalent fractions. In History, the children have studied two big aspects of WWII, evacuation and the Blitz. In science, the children planned and set up an experiment measuring environments for rusting.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We are enjoying playing netball in PE.
- We found it really interesting learning about the Blitz.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children what they learned about how people protected themselves during the Blitz.
- Ask the children to explain the golden rule for calculating equivalent fractions.
Looking forward:
Next week, the children will be moving on in our English work to learning about letter writing. In maths, we will continue to look at fractions, exploring strategies for ordering fractions from smallest to largest. On Monday, we will be doing a ‘No Outsiders’ lesson based on the thought provoking book, Rose Blanche. In RE, we will be studying what people might believe about angels in different religions.
Don’t forget the Book Fair is here until next Thursday!
Have a great weekend!
