Y5 Weekly Update 24.1.25
Friday 24th January 2025 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
It’s been a hard working week in Year 5. The children have been exploring the Sherlock Holmes book, ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’ and we are gearing up towards a couple of great pieces of writing next week. In maths, we have moved on to a little unit of work on fractions and we have been multiplying fractions this week. In History, we’ve done some really interesting work on evacuation and the Blitz.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- It was interesting learning about different sacred texts in RE.
- We liked researching the Blitz and watching some poignant videos about this..
- We are enjoying exploring the art of Henry Moore with Mrs Riddell.
Family discussion questions:
- Can the children tell you any interesting information about evacuation?
- Can the children tell you what has happened in The Hound of the Baskervilles so far?
Looking forward:
Next week, the children will be undertaking a couple of interesting writing tasks based on our Sherlock Holmes graphic novel.
In Maths, we will be practising how to calculate a fraction of a number.
In History, we will be learning about rationing and the work of Alan Turing.
We will be planning and conducting an experiment on thermal insulation in science.
Have a great weekend!
