Y5 Weekly Update 27.9.24

Friday 27th September 2024 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a really good week in Year 5. The children have undertaken some research about daily life in Ancient Greece and the lives of children in particular. In English, the children have planned and begun to write their own stories based on space exploration - they've done a fantastic job with these. In science, the children researched the work on Copernicus and Galileo and how they changed scientific thinking about the solar system.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We are enjoying practising with our Wider Opps instruments.
  • We enjoyed learning about life in Ancient Greece.
  • We feel more confident with rounding in maths.

Family discussion questions:

  • Can the children tell you about the life of an Ancient Greek child?
  • Ask the children to tell you the golden rules of rounding.

Looking forward:

Next week, we really get going on our exhibition work. We will be reading two myths – Jason and the Golden Fleece and The Trojan Horse, and producing some lovely work based on these.

In maths, we will be moving on to a new unit, exploring strategies for addition and subtraction.

In science, the children will be looking at the life and work of the inspirational scientist, Maggie Aderin-Pocock.

Have a great weekend!
