Y5 Weekly Update 28.4.23
Friday 28th April 2023 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
It’s been a lovely week in class, with lots of hard work and enthusiasm. We started our South America geography topic by learning the countries and dependencies of this continent. In English, we have continue to look at the beautiful book, ‘The Lost Book of Adventure’, and the children have been honing their writing skills ready to write an adventure story. In maths, we have been doing some work on decimals. On Wednesday afternoons, we are really lucky to welcome some students from Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School, working with the class on some coding skills on a computer programme called Scratch.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We are really enjoying looking at survival and exploration in our English topic.
- We enjoyed our cricket PE lesson.
- We are enjoying coding using Scratch.
Family discussion questions:
- Can the children remember the South American countries?
- What did the children learn about vegetative reproduction?
Looking forward:
After the bank holiday Monday, the children will be completing their own adventure and exploration story set in the jungle. In maths we will continue to look at decimals, with some decimals problem solving. In geography, our South America topic continues with some work on biomes. In science we will be exploring the life cycle of a bird, and examining what’s in an egg!
On Thursday, the juniors will be having an interesting carousel of activities all based on the Coronation.
Enjoy the weekend!
