Y5 Weekly Update 30.6.23
Friday 30th June 2023 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
It’s been a hardworking week in Year 5. On Monday we said a sad goodbye to the South African children. They brought so much positivity to our school and really enriched our lives for the time they were here – I know life long friendships have been made.
In History, we looked at old sources of evidence about Goostrey – examining census records and directories to make conclusions about life in the village in the past. We then researched the history of the school, which was really interesting. In science, we started a new topic, ‘Growing Up & Growing Old’ and created a life timeline.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We were sad to see the South Africans leave, but we were very glad they came.
- We enjoyed learning about the history of village.
- We really enjoyed doing some programming using Scratch on Wednesday afternoon.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children what they enjoyed most about the South African children’s visit?
- What did the children learn from the old Census information about Goostrey?
Looking forward:
Unbelievably, we enter July and the last three weeks of term!
Next week we will be starting a little bit of ICT work on spreadsheets, creating a spreadsheet to convert units of measurement.
In D&T, we will be starting a unit of work on moving toy mechanisms. The children will be making a Moving Toy during the two days of Bikeability in a couple of weeks.
The children will be writing a dilemma narrative story based on King Kong.
In maths, we begin our final topic of the year – converting units of measurement.
Don't forget it is July evening on Friday!
Enjoy the weekend!
