Y5 Weekly Update 3.11.23
Friday 3rd November 2023 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
It’s been a great week back after half-term. We started a unit of English work based on a great picture book called FArTHER. In our History lessons, we had a little introduction to the ancient Greeks, looking at a timeline of world history and where the ancient Greek civilisation fit into this. In maths, we have done some great work on line graphs and statistics. In science we began a new topic on forces – we had a recap all about the force of gravity.
We’ve listened to about half of the presentations and they have been fantastic – thank you to everyone for the effort put into these.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We really enjoyed doing gymnastics in PE.
- We found it interesting comparing Christian and Hindu beliefs about ‘truth’.
- We’ve really enjoyed reading ‘FArTHER’.
- We have enjoyed the presentations and learning about classmate’s hobbies and interests.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children what they learned about the ancient Greeks this week.
- Can the children remember any of the quotes we studied about ‘truth’.
Looking forward:
Next week, we will be looking at friction in science and we will design an investigation measuring friction. On Monday, we will be doing a lovely PSHE lesson based on the book, ‘How to Heal a Broken Wing’. Our RE lesson will examine the Christian Bible story about the ‘Temptation of Christ’. In maths, we will conclude our statistics unit of work by looking at tables and timetables, before moving on to multiplication and division.
Have a great weekend!
