Y5 Weekly Update 3.5.24
Friday 3rd May 2024 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
The children have been brilliant in class this week – showing a great attitude to their work. In English, we have continued to ‘explore’ adventuring and survival and we are building up our writing skills ready to write a story set in the jungle. We did a really interesting history lesson, looking at maps of Goostrey over the period of 100 years and seeing how the village has changed - we then discussed the reasons these developments happened. In science, the children have learned about pollination and fertilisation of plants, then we researched vegetative reproduction. On Wednesday, the children made rationing cakes with Mrs Riddell.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We loved making our little cake in D&T with Mrs Riddell.
- We’ve enjoyed doing dance in PE.
- We are still enjoying the book, ‘The Lost Book of Adventure’.
Family discussion questions:
- Can the children tell you what a spreadsheet is for?
- Ask the children if they can remember the process of pollination for flowering plants.
Looking forward:
In maths next week we will be doing a final few lessons of decimals work before moving on to shape.
In English, the children will be planning and writing a story based on adventuring in the jungle.
In science, we will be learning about the life cycle of a bird and looking at what’s inside an egg.
In History, we will be studying census information for the village over time.
Have a great weekend!
