Y5 Weekly Update 7.6.24

Friday 7th June 2024 – Y5 Weekly Update

Looking back:

It’s been a great first week back after the half-term break – the children have been full of enthusiasm and hard work. We started a brilliant new English topic based on Anthony Browne’s wonderful retelling of the classic story, King Kong. In maths, we have continued with work on shape, problem solving with angles. We also began a new geography topic, learning about South America.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We are enjoying the South America inspired art work with Mrs Riddell.
  • We found the work on Muslim pilgrimages interesting.
  • We loved the first part of ‘King Kong’.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children how many South American countries and dependencies they can remember.
  • Can the children describe the different angle types (straight-line, acute, right-angle, reflex, obtuse)?

Looking forward:

Next week we have our exciting concert at the Bridgewater Hall, where the children will be playing with the world famous Hallé orchestra. I will send out a text early next week with a few reminders, but just to let you know again - we will be leaving at 8.30am and children will need to be in school at 8.20 to register. They will also need a packed lunch on this day, which they will eat when we’re back.

We’ll start out final science topic next week – Growing Up and Growing Old. The children will be looking at life milestones and what ages they happen.

In English, we will continue reading King Kong – we are building up to writing a story based on this wonderful book. We’ll then learn how to write a balanced argument.

It's also the Father's Day Shop next week - our slot will be on Wednesday.

Have a great weekend!
