Y5 Weekly Update 7.7.23
Friday 7th July 2023 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
This has been a great week in Year 5. The children have been planning and writing a ‘dilemma narrative’ story based on a version of King Kong by Anthony Browne. In maths, we have worked on converting units of measurement.
On Monday, the children spent the afternoon exploring and creating spreadsheets. In History, they finished their local area topic learning about the history of the school, they then moved on to looking at the different houses in Goostrey and what the terms Grade I, Grade II and change of use mean.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We really enjoyed creating spreadsheets in our ICT lesson.
- We enjoyed learning about a baby’s developmental stages in science.
- It’s been interesting learning about the history of the village.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children what happened in their dilemma narrative story.
- Ask the children what they have learned about converting measurement and their spreadsheets.
Looking forward:
We have such a busy week next week!
On Monday, we have the Fire Service visiting the classroom to give the children a talk about fire safety.
On Thursday and Friday the children have Bikeability. They will go out in two groups, so one group will be out biking and one group will be in the classroom with me creating moving toys – our D&T topic. I will send out a text/email about Bikeability in the middle of next week. On Monday and Tuesday afternoons, the children will be designing and planning the building of their moving toy.
On Monday, the children will be will going to see their Year 6 classroom and teachers as part of their transition to their next year group.
In maths, the children will continue converting units of measurement. We’ll also have our last arithmetic lesson of the year. The children’s arithmetic skills have improved so much this year!
Enjoy the weekend!
