PLEASE NOTE THAT THE HATWORKS MUSEUM WILL BE VISITING YEAR 6 ON THURSDAY 23RD MAY FOR A WORKSHOP DAY.  WE WOULD LIKE THE PUPILS TO WEAR ANY TYPE OF HAT TO SCHOOL FOR THIS - THANK YOU.

Looking back:

Would it be fair to say it’s been a “testing” week in some ways, but actually not in others.  Yes, Year 6 have completed their tests but the way in which they approached and worked at each of their seven separate papers is to be highly commended.  We have watched over their shoulders as they have entered the hall with a wonderful array of lucky charms and a sense of calm.  Each test saw different challenges, but they worked their way through and now we are out the other side.  There is life after SATs.  Well done, Year 6 – you should be very proud.

We have also ensured that the class has continued with their regular lessons after lunch, with the added extra sessions of PE and free time on the school field (during the afternoons) to release a little steam – thank you Miss Atkins and Mrs. Cooper. This week, they have continued to work on their history and science projects.  Premier Sports have delivered an energetic session on Tuesday.  Thursday afternoon was devoted to a mixture of RE and art with the children working alongside Mrs. Cowell and Mrs. Benson to create their version of the Holy Trinity through colour and design.  Of course, Friday saw great excitement with the end-of-SATs party and – thanks to parents in “Team Hoody” – the distribution of their Leavers’ Hoodies.  It was especially lovely to see the football game on Friday afternoon – a mixture of Reception, Years 1 and 2 all playing with Year 6. A lovely sight.

So, all round, it’s been another week of continued mix of working, playing, art, learning, practising and - hopefully - lots of enjoyment.

Letters issued Y6:

None this week – a “Parents” magazine will be coming home on Monday!

Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • The end-of-SATs party
  • Extra time on the field
  • Seeing buddies
  • Completing our tests well

Family discussion questions:

  • Tell me about your artwork from Thursday.
  • Where did the Vikings come from?
  • Who is the missing person you are preparing a poster for?

Looking forward:

  1. Now that our formal tests have been completed, we are returning to a regular timetable with English and maths lessons, together with the continued foundation subjects in the afternoons.  Our focus for English is now on completing our writing for national moderation and we will be spending time creating, editing and publishing some great pieces of work.
  2. “The X Factory” – Auditions begin Monday lunchtime - and each lunch - until all (who want to) have auditioned - remember to read/learn page 23.  If you require a singing part, you may sing a song at your audition – we can provide the music via “Youtube” so let us know, and we’ll prepare that for you.  On Monday, you will be asked which are your top three choices for characters, so be prepared.  If you need to download a copy of the script, log into the school website and there is a link for you.

Homework in Year 6

Mrs. Timmins:

  1. Complete the “Pupil Report Comments” sheet so that we can include your own thoughts and opinions for your end-of-year reports.  Two copies were found in the cloakroom - if you're missing yours, visit the homework tab and download a new one.  You may download this and type your comments too, if you wish to.
  2. Read – and begin to learn – your script for “The X Factory” (this will be an expected, on-going homework from now until the end of the year!  Happy line learning!)
