Y6 - Friday 24th May - Looking Back and Forth

Y6 - Friday  24th May 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

So, as another half term ends, it’s been a final busy week with us in Year 6.  Whilst the formality of our tests are now over, our attention has turned to completing our writing with much publishing going on this week and two lovely texts being produced.  We have also enjoyed PE lessons; looking at our circulatory system for science work; the Vikings in history; and of course, enjoying time with our buddies on Friday.

Two special events occurred this week.  On Thursday, we welcomed Amanda Phillipson from Stockport’s “Hat Works” museum into our class.  She spent time with our pupils explaining all about the history of hats and how Stockport was once the centre of the hat-making world.  We learned about felt making; looked at historical hats and timelines; the pupils enjoyed trying on a range of hats for different purposes; and each child made their own piece of felt.  It was an extremely successful workshop and our pupils were engaged throughout.  We would certainly welcome The Hat Works back to Goostrey in the future.

Friday saw our pupils learn which parts they had been allocated in “The X Factory”.  Please believe us when we say how hard we have tried to accommodate every request and ensure that all our pupils are happy.  It is impossible to give everyone the exact part that they required, but rest assured, we are well-practised in Year 6 productions and we shall endeavour to work hard to make each part unique and see that everyone of our 30 pupils is happy.

Letters issued Y6:

Kingswood – Parental Meeting Invite; emergency contact details; information sheet – issued directly to pupils on Friday 24th May – copies are available on the “Kingswood” tab of the Year 6 webpage

Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Completing my publishing work
  • PE with Mrs. Cooper
  • Games with Mr. Wilkes (Premier Sports)
  • Playing with my buddy
  • Getting my part in the play
  • Making felt
  • Wearing my hat to school

Family discussion questions:

  • Although hats were made in Stockport, there was another place that made hats in the North West – where?
  • How are the Romans and felt connected?
  • Tell me about the circulatory system – can you remember the proper names for different parts?

Looking forward:

We shall continue with a focus on writing compositions until the end of the June in particular, when assessments for this aspect will be completed.  We shall also continue with maths lessons so that our pupils continue to practise their skills.  Our pupils should also have their scripts in school so that we can – time allowing – continue to learn their lines.  This will be a major focus from the end of June.
