Y6 - Friday 25th January 2019 - Looking Back and Forth

Y6 - Friday 25th January 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

Over the last week, our pupils have been busy working on their writing about Charles Maxim.  He is a main character in our new class novel, “Rooftoppers” by Katherine Rundell.  We are only given a limited amount of information so the class has created their own version.  These are available for you to read by clicking on the “Display Items” tab on the Year 6 page.  We hope you enjoy them.

In maths, we have strengthened our knowledge and application of the order of operations and we have been applying the BODMAS rule.  They have continued to look at land use – via maps – for Geography and have begun to consider the Theory of Evolution.  Towards the end of the week, the hat study has continued, with pupils finding out about the history of hats over the decades and centuries.

A great way to finish the week was with their buddies.  Some have listened to – and read to – their little ones and they have really enjoyed looking at some lovely picture books with them.

A thank you to all who were able to make the SATs information evening on Tuesday.  For those who were unable to attend, a paper copy of the information was issued to your child the following day whilst the full PowerPoint presentation (including some example questions) is available on the Year 6 page if parents would like to revisit any particular pages.  Should any family have questions about the SATs, please do contact Mrs. Timmins.

A fantastic week, Year 6 – keep it up!

Letters issued Y6:

A leaflet for first aid courses – should have come home Friday but Mrs. Timmins missed it.  Please look out for this on Monday.  Thank you

Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  1. Reading with my buddy – it was great to really listen carefully to his reading.
  2. Publishing my Charles Maxim writing.
  3. Friday’s lunch.

Family discussion questions:

  • Grammar Focus: What are the seven co-ordinating conjunctions? Can you give an example of a subordinating conjunction?
  • What does the “O” stand for in BODMAS?  Can you give the answer and two examples, Year 6?
  • Tell me about the history of hats?  What type of hat did Winston Churchill wear?

Looking forward:

  • We are continuing our new topic in English about graffiti and continuing with our other topics which are currently ongoing.  Please can the pupils ensure they have their PE kit in school EVERY DAY as the PE lesson may – on occasions – change days.  Thank you.
