Y6 - Friday 3rd May 2019 - Looking Back and Forth

Y6 - Friday 3rd May 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

Whilst we might be only a short time away from our assessments, we are pleased to report that normal lessons are continuing – particularly in the afternoons – and our pupils are enjoying a range of lessons to support their learning.  Revision for reading, grammar, spelling and maths has continued through the morning lessons, but our afternoons have been quite a mix of practical lessons this week.  On Tuesday, the class were enjoying PE with Premier Sports and the apparatus in the junior hall was out and being climbed very effectively.  We also welcomed Mrs. James into class this week.  She works for Cheshire Fire and Rescue and visits Year 6 to discuss road safety – explaining why the Fire Service and road safety go together.  The class was issued with a letter and a safety booklet which came home on Friday – please take time to share these with your children.

The Year 6 have also been involved in historical research into the Anglo-Saxons whilst also working on writing up their biographical texts about famous scientists.  Thursday afternoon saw the pupils enjoying a practical music session mixing this with dance too.  Friday saw an energetic buddy session – a great way to end the week.

Letters issued Y6:

  1. Tales of the Road – A Highway Code for Young Road Users
  2. Cheshire Fire & Rescue Services – Letter for Parents
  3. Premier Camps Holiday Club Leaflet

Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Music and dance with Mrs. Benson
  • Premier Sports Friday Football Club
  • Tuesday’s maths with Miss Atkins
  • Premier Sports lesson with the apparatus

Family discussion questions:

  • Grammar Focus: What is the difference between perfect and progressive verbs?
  • Which piece of music did you “dance” to and who composed it?
  • Tell me two facts from the Anglo Saxon times in Britain.

Looking forward:

  1. Our pupils have – by almost the entire class – opted to practise for the SATs by completing the 2018 papers during their last week.  That way, we can gain a real feel for the following week and look at some exam-style questions.  Our studies in all our curriculum areas will continue as normal.
  2. We shall be issuing information regarding the SATs towards the end of the week.  Please note that pupils will not be required to provide their own equipment, so no special purchases will be required.  The SATs timetable is listed under our “Events” tab.
