Year 1 we 12th January 2018
Hi All,
Welcome back. We had a great start to the first week of the Spring term. The children created a brilliant display on weaving which is currently under construction in the classroom. The children also wrote recounts of their Christmas holidays. The children told us all about their favourite presents, their special visitors and if they had been on any trips during the holidays. It was great to catch up with all their news. It sounds as if you all had a busy and fun Christmas.
Thank you for all our lovely presents and cards. We felt very spoilt.
Next week we are starting to write explanatory texts in English. We are linking this to the topic work in the afternoons. We will be looking at the seasons as well as seasonal changes.
If you could discuss the changes of the seasons with your child, that would be helpful. If you could talk about the things that change; animals (hibernating or more fur), the plants (leaves on the trees) and the weather (cold and hot).
In maths we are looking at subtraction. If there are opportunities to use subtraction in a practical problem solving way at home that would be great.
e.g. – If you put 5 cars back in the box, how many will be left out to play with?
In the afternoons the children are going to working on their topic on mega structures and the science behind seasonal changes.
Here are the - Highlights for the children this week
- Weaving
- Painting the paper for the weaving
- Maths – taking away
- Writing about Christmas
- Shapes work with Mrs Tedd

17th January NSPCC meeting – If you can attend it would be really helpful to keep you aware of how to keep your child safe online.
There will be a meeting for all parents at 2 15PM on the 17th, in the Sunshine Room. The purpose of this meeting is to share the message regarding your child’s online safety. Over the last few months we have been asked several times by parents if we could facilitate such a meeting. We are delighted that the NSPCC have agreed to do this for our families. Please attend, if you can to hear these important messages.
