Year 1 we 1st December
Hi All,
This week in English, we will be continuing with the topic on traditional stories this week. In the week we are still looking at the story of the Gingerbread man. We will be writing our own version.
If you have a chance to look at traditional stories with your child, this would really support their learning in school. Traditional tales very often have a meaning to them or moral. This would prove as an excellent discussion point after reading the story. Can your child work out what the lesson or moral is?
You could:
- Look at how traditional tales always seem to begin (once upon a time or something else?)
- Look at how they end – how is this different than the fairy stories they read?
- The characters are they clever, sly or trusting.
- Are there any common themes that you and your child notice (animals that talk, sly foxes, silly people, repeating patterns in the story)
- Could you child retell the story to you.
- Could you think of 3 words to describe each of the main characters?
In maths, we will be continuing working on addition and subtraction. This week we will be using our number bonds. We will be matching them and learning and applying them in problem solving and reasoning activities.
Matching them means - Can they identify the ones that have the same answer? See below
4+4 1+6 4+5
2+3 7+1 5+0
In the afternoon we will be continuing our topic of old toys.
