Year 2 27th November Looking Back and Forth
Friday 27th November 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 2
Looking back:
Another great week at school, with the children continuing to be happy in class and making good progress with their learning. This week we have finished writing excellent setting descriptions about “The Night Gardener” and published them using neat handwriting. We worked on problem solving using multiplication in maths. When working as scientists we investigated properties of different materials by finding out how their shape could be changed. The children ordered events in Florence Nightingale’s life and understood how to use a timeline. Dance with Premier Sport linked with this topic and children created a dance themed around journeying to another land. It has been busy – please ask your children to tell you about our week.
Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- Multiplication arrays
- The Night Gardener book
- Making a dance about journeys in PE
- Our work about Florence Nightingale
- Earning four marbles in one day!
Family discussion questions:
- Who is this week’s inspirational person?
- What is a verb?
- What is a multiplication array?
Looking forward:
- Reading books are changed on Mondays – but please ensure your child has their pack with them every day
- Geography – The United Kingdom
- Writing a familiar story
- Division
- Science – seasonal change
- History – Florence Nightingale’s diary
Homework in Year 2
Please read with your child every day. Many children are decoding their reading books well but find answering the comprehension questions much harder. We are working on this at school but it will really help if you can also ask questions during home question time. Please see our class page for further ideas (files section).
Maths: multiplication sheet due Friday
English: reading comprehension due Friday
Spellings: past tense words with the -ed suffix to be quizzed on Friday.
