Year 2 6th December Looking Back and Forth

Friday 6th December 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 2

Looking back:

It has been a very busy week! Our nativity production of “A Midwife Crisis” is coming together ready for next week’s performances. The children are working very hard at remembering their lines and acting out their roles. Please support them at home with this.

We have also begun learning about division in maths, understanding that our answer will be smaller than our starting number and linking division to multiplication facts.

We continue to be busy with art, science, history and geography too. In PE the children are continuing with ball skills and dance. I am looking forward to watching their finished performances of “Penguin Adventure”

I’m very proud of Year 2. They all have a great attitude to their learning and never give up. We say…”mistakes are part of learning. If I can’t do it yet… I will be able to soon”.

Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Golden Time
  • PE
  • Reading because we get to choose our favourite book
  • “I love my school, my friends and my teachers”
  • Dance – penguin adventures
  • Nativity
  • “Everything there is to learn”
  • Making things to sell at the Christmas Bazaar

Family discussion questions:

  • How big is the United Kingdom compared to other countries?
  • What is an imperative verb?

Looking forward:

  1. Instruction writing – finishing and publishing our work
  2. PE sessions on Tuesday and Friday– ball skills and dance
  3. Maths – division
  4. Nativity songs and acting

  1. Information about the Nativity: There are two performances and each family has been allocated 2 tickets per performance: Wednesday 12th at 930am and Thursday 12th at 2pm. We ask that no pre-schoolers/younger siblings attend the performances but they are welcome to come to the dress rehearsal on Tuesday 11th at 930 so please let Mrs Flint or myself know.

Homework in Year 2

Please listen to your child read for 15 minutes each day and talk about what they have read. Can they tell you what happened? Do they understand the meaning of new words? What was their favourite part? Please use the bookmarks we sent home to help you.

Maths: sheet due back on 13th December.

English: learning your lines for the Nativity. Please help your child to know when to say their line and “act” it out.

Spellings: quiz on 13th December.
