Year 2 Looking back and forth 14th May

Friday 14th May 2021 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 2

Looking back:

This week we have been working very hard writing a re-tell of our class book. The children have been trying to draw the reader into their stories using powerful language. What a fantastic effort Year 2!

In Maths we used our knowledge to answer reasoning questions  and also looked at using the inverse.  We have also continued to look at 3D shape.  In science we devised an experiment to discover what is the most important factor in seed germination.  It has been a busy week for the caterpillars despite the bad weather and they have now moved house! The children have been busy in phonics, reading work, geography and RE too.

We have also been active in PE for team games and Zumba and spent lots of time outside. We continued to work on friendship skills and problem solving together.

Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Writing the story
  • Maths
  • Reading work
  • Caterpillars

Homework in Year 2

Please read with your child every day. Many children are decoding their reading books well but find answering the comprehension questions much harder. We are working on this at school but it will really help if you can also ask questions during home question time. Please see our class page for further ideas (files section).

Maths:

Sheet due back on Friday.

Please help your child to learn their 2, 5 and 10 times tables. We will have a quiz every week. When your child knows the first sheet I will send home a sheet with mixed up times tables. You can use the Percy Parker You Tube videos or chant them. The best way to learn them is to practise for short periods every day, rather than once a week. Please keep the sheet at home so you can practise. Times Table Rockstars passwords have been sent home.

English:

Complete the sentences using the bear picture for next Friday.

Spellings:
