Year 2 Looking Back and Forth 2nd July

Friday 2nd July 2021 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 2

Looking back:

Another great week in Year 2! This week we have planned out our story about Rosie Revere, ready to write our own version next week. Maths has been all about revising time, shape and measurement with lots of opportunities for hands on learning. In history we began to look in detail at features of castles and learned when they were first built and why. We finished our Paul Klee inspired art work and began some sculpture work, inspired by Take One Picture/ National Gallery. We have also enjoyed lots of PE time again with sport day practise and Zumba dance too.

Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Castles
  • Paul Klee artwork
  • Sculpture with clay
  • Sports day practise
  • Rosie Revere
  • Science
  • Measuring with rulers

Family discussion questions:

  • What is a motte and bailey castle?
  • Why do we need protein and where can it come from?

Looking forward:

  • Reading books are changed on Mondays (Tuesday) – but please ensure your child has their pack with them every day
  • Monday – come to school in your pyjamas if you wish and take part in the fun run. £2 donation please.

  • Art sculpture
  • History of castles
  • Year 2 Sports day is 9th July for children only. This year’s activities will be class based so no special clothing is required. Please see the newsletters for detail.

Homework in Year 2

Please read with your child every day. Many children are decoding their reading books well but find answering the comprehension questions much harder. We are working on this at school but it will really help if you can also ask questions during home question time. Please see our class page for further ideas (files section).

Maths:

Please help your child to learn their 2, 5 and 10 times tables. We will have a quiz every week. When your child knows the first sheet I will send home a sheet with mixed up times tables. You can use the Percy Parker You Tube videos or chant them. The best way to learn them is to practise for short periods every day, rather than once a week. Please keep the sheet at home so you can practise. Times Table Rockstars passwords were sent home today.

English:

Castle themed homework due back on Friday 9th July. See the sheet sent home and choose the activity you prefer.

Spellings:

Learn words using all Year 2 rules for the quiz on Friday.
