Year 2 Looking back and forth 9th July

Friday 9th July 2021 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 2

Looking back:

We began our week with the Fun Run around the field. It was great to be able to cheer other classes on and enjoy ourselves. Thank you for supporting this event. We also enjoyed Sports Day on Friday in our class groups. Although not our normal event, the children had a great time and I was really proud of their sporting attitude. Afterwards we enjoyed the medals and ice lollies too. Thank you for supporting the children with their castles homework. We are enjoying looking at their fabulous creations, from Power-points and videos to models and pictures. Many children clearly spent an enjoyable time working on it.

Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Making and painting clay tiles for Take One Picture
  • Finding out that one of the teachers has published two books
  • Writing my story

Homework in Year 2

Please read with your child every day. Many children are decoding their reading books well but find answering the comprehension questions much harder. We are working on this at school but it will really help if you can also ask questions during home question time. Please see our class page for further ideas (files section).

Maths:

Please help your child to learn their 2, 5 and 10 times tables. We will have a quiz every week. When your child knows the first sheet I will send home a sheet with mixed up times tables. You can use the Percy Parker You Tube videos or chant them. The best way to learn them is to practise for short periods every day, rather than once a week. Please keep the sheet at home so you can practise.

Spellings:

Learn words using “soft c” rule for the quiz on Friday. This is revision because the children need to apply the rule in their writing.
