Year 2 Looking back and forwards 17th Sept
Friday 17th September 2021 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 2
Looking back:
We have had another great week! The children have been getting used to our class rules and have really impressed me with their listening skills – keep it up please. We have begun our English work around the story “The Fish Who Could Wish” by describing the main character. In maths our work has been around place value, building on what was learned in Year 1. We have also been busy learning about continents in geography, the basic needs of animals in science, RE, PE and plenty more. I hope you all have a good weekend.
Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- Maths games about place value
- Number bonds to ten
- The Fish Who Could Wish
- Geography
- Zumba - minions
Family discussion questions:
- What are nouns and adjectives?
Looking forward:
- Reading books will be changed on Monday. Please ensure your child has their pack with them every day.
- Maths – the place value of numbers
- Writing a story
- Investigating being healthy in Science work
- Exhibition work
- Geography – United Kingdom
- Please see the newsletter this week for details of when the holiday homework should come to school.
Homework in Year 2
Maths: Use the “number bond hands” to practise number bonds to ten for a quiz next Friday. The children know what to do. The children need to recall the answer quickly so please keep practising, a few minutes a day is best.
English: complete the phonics sheet and return to school on Friday
Spellings: start next week
Please read with your child every day. Many children are decoding their reading books well but find answering the comprehension questions much harder. We are working on this at school but it will really help if you can also ask questions during home question time. Please see our class page for further ideas (files section).
