Year 4 Looking back and Forth 15th November 2019
Friday 15th November 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4
Looking back:
Wow, wow and wow again! The children in class having been working super duper hard this week to write their own outsider narrative, based on the story Leaf by Sandra Deickmann. I have been very impressed how they have strived to develop their vocabulary, build complex sentences and proudly show off their abilities in using fronted adverbials for their sentences. I can’t wait to see the finished articles next week.
In maths, we looked at adding 1,000 more and less to numbers. We worked on our timestables and had quite a few Rockstars sessions as this week it was ‘Rock Out Week’.
We continued our work on states of matter in science. We conducted an experiment to look at rates of melting with some rather splendid ‘ice hands’. The children developed their skills of reading thermometers. The class also worked with Mrs Cooper on modelling effects on the screen. Mrs Benson we had an arithmetic lesson as well as beginning to prepare our class performance for the carol service.
On Friday afternoon, we had a Wellbeing and Mindfulness afternoon. This was a super afternoon with lots of indoor and outdoor activities all to promote happiness and good mental health. There were lots of different activities for the children; some children ran, (5 miles!) some drew, decorated and coloured, some created sculptures, some made bug hotels to help the animals in the school environment, some children worked on team work activities and some children were involved in music workshops. The feedback from the class was very positive. Children learnt a lot about what makes them happy and hopefully, considered the things that helped with their own wellbeing and mental health.
Questions to ask at home:
- What did you did you do on Friday afternoon?
- How did it make you feel?
- What is the freezing point of water?
- What happened to your ice hands?
- Where did they melt the best?
- Can you tell me something that has two states of matter in it?
- What are the ten most vital things to take with you on an expedition to Mt Everest?
