Year 4 Looking Back and Forth 25th June

Friday 25th June– Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

This week, the children have worked very hard.  A countless times this week, they have impressed me with their self-motivation and independence.  They are well on their way to being ready for Upper Keystage 2.

This week, we continued to look at the Viking style myth of Arthur and the Golden Rope.  We looked at suffixes and prefixes too, which builds on their work with Mrs Riddell.

In maths, we have continued our work on decimals and are nearing the end of this topic now.  The afternoons, we have created sequences of movement to go with the PBuzz work.  We created Anglo-Saxon brooches out of clay.  As well as exploring grouping animals.

Questions to ask at home:

What is a preposition?

What is a prefix?

What is a suffix?

How did you make your clay brooch?

What were the common features of a Anglo Saxon brooch?

Children’s Highlights Of The Week:

  • E. Athletics with Mr Townsend
  • Maths – working on decimals
  • English- reading the story of Arthur
  • Creating my Anglo-Saxon brooch out of clay
  • Reading
  • Completing my Viking pre-topic
  • Learning about habitats and grouping animals

Looking Forward:

This week, the children will plan their own versions of a Viking saga.  In maths, we will complete decimals and move onto shape and space.  We will begin our Vikings work in the afternoon.  As well as completing work with our new No Outsiders book for this term, The Red Crayon.

Please remember we have Bikeability and Sports Day coming up.

Homework in Year 4

Reading – daily at least 15 mins – in preparation for Accelerated Reader Quizzes at school

Rockstars – as much as possible 10 mins daily is ideal – at least once a week for 20 mins

Soundcheck is a great tool to prepare the children for the Goostrey Multiplication Tables Check in June. IN 1 WEEK

Spellings  – Mrs Riddell – Please learn them for the test on Wednesday.  It is better to look at them for 5 minutes each day than try to learn them all in one night.  The children remember them better learnt over the week.
